The Georgetown Global Cities Initiative certificate program strengthens Jakarta’s civil servants’ capacity to use evidence to shape policy solutions that make urban life more equitable, resilient, and livable.
Developed in partnership with the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government and Georgetown SFS Asia Pacific, the certificate is positioned at the intersection of policy, practice, and place β supporting Jakarta’s ambition to become a top-ranked global city by investing in the people who design and implement its policies.

About the certificate
At its core, the Georgetown Global Cities Initiative certificate responds to a central question: how can cities translate data, knowledge, and lived realities into policies that make urban life more equitable, resilient, and livable?
Urban challenges are not only technical, they are social, political and deeply contextual. The certificate equips you to move beyond siloed solutions, enabling more integrated approaches across urban planning, social protection and environmental systems. The result is policy that is not only effective, but grounded, inclusive and durable.

Curriculum
The Georgetown Global Cities Initiative certificate is delivered through a three-course program that combines global frameworks with local application, bringing together civil servants from across Jakarta’s government to learn from one another as much as from the curriculum itself.
Certificate requirements
To earn the certificate, you must complete:
- 1 required course
- 2 elective courses from designated tracks
Each course includes 38 hours of instruction, complemented by field-based learning and applied policy work.
