Georgetown SFS Asia Pacific (GSAP) takes a different approach to graduate education, combining Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service academic rigor with immersive, field-based learning in Jakarta. You won’t just study the challenges facing the Asia Pacific and the Global South ā you’ll engage with them directly, working alongside the governments, industries and communities where they unfold.

Master in Diplomacy and International Affairs (Asia Pacific)
Spanning Jakarta, Doha and Washington, DC, the Master in Diplomacy and International Affairs (MDIA) is a 9-month, multi-campus degree designed for mid-career professionals ready to engage with the complexities of international affairs and global policy. You’ll build expertise in economic diplomacy, energy and environmental policy and negotiation ā and graduate prepared for impactful roles across the public, private and nonprofit sectors.
Georgetown Semester in Jakarta
Deepen your masterās degree at the School of Foreign Service experience by spending a semester in Jakarta at the intersection of the Asia Pacific and the Global South. Through immersive, field-based learning, you’ll engage directly with real-world policy challenges and develop actionable solutions to some of the region’s most pressing issues.
Policy Labs
Work on real policy challenges through GSAP’s thematic Policy Labs. Collaborate with practitioners and partners to develop solutions shaped by the complexities of the Asia Pacific, producing work with relevance and impact that extends well beyond the classroom. Through field-based research, these labs examine how global practices can be adapted to real-life policy contexts in the Asia Pacific.
Georgetown Asia Pacific Accelerated Masterās Program (1 + 1)
If you’re a high-achieving undergraduate at one of our partner universities in Indonesia, the 1+1 program offers you a streamlined pathway to a Georgetown SFS master’s degree ā beginning graduate-level coursework in your senior year and fast-tracking your path to advanced expertise in international affairs.
During the spring semester, I took the Critical Minerals course at Georgetown SFS Asia Pacific to go into the field and examine the practical issues facing development today. For students seeking practical, hands-on learning, this program offers a strong balance between theory and real-world issues. It helps us become better policymakers by pushing us beyond research and into understanding how policies actually affect people.

Within GSIJ, Iām taking courses such as Critical Minerals, Marine Ecology, Social Protection, and Livable Cities. While the classes are excellent, the real takeaways are the field trips and our engagement with government officials, where we learn about budgeting and the realities of working within bureaucracy while contributing our own vision and optimism. If I could make this program mandatory for all SFS graduate students, I would. The Policy Labs closely connect with what we study on the main campus, but from a Southeast Asian perspective. Living in such a dynamic, developing country truly sharpens the skills we gain at SFS.
