Elle Wibisono

Technical Director of Blue Labs & Research Fellow

Dr. Elle Wibisono is the Technical Director and Research Fellow at the Blue Lab (Georgetown Asia Pacific). Before teaching at Georgetown, she was a fisheries scientist at Conservation International's (CI) Center for Oceans and led a team of Konservasi Indonesia scientists to conduct biodiversity and fisheries research aboard the OceanXplorer vessel in the Indian Ocean. She was previously a Lui-Walton fellow at CI, responsible for developing and designing the science pillar of the Blue Halo S initiative – an integrated protection and production mechanism for a 100% sustainably managed ocean. Before working at Conservation International, she was a Knauss Marine Policy Fellow at the UnitedĀ States. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation (D), where she helped draft, research, communicate, and negotiate oceans and climate change bills, including the Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill. She also worked at The Nature Conservancy Indonesia Fisheries Conservation Project on the sustainable management of deep-water snapper and grouper fisheries. In addition to her research and policy work, Elle explores the importance of effective science communication by designing and creating fish comics.Ā She authored a children’s book on fisheries and through her comics, she aims to highlight topics in fishery science and conservation in a fun and engaging way. She received her bachelor’s degree inĀ biological sciences from Wellesley College and her Ph.D. in sustainable fisheries management from the University of Rhode Island.
